Kristen Lopez is a writer, editor and disability advocate whose work has been published at Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, MTV and Turner Classic Movies. She was the Film Editor at TheWrap and was previously the TV Editor at IndieWire where her writing on disability in media garnered her nominations at both the SoCal Journalism Awards and National Journalism Awards by the LA Press Club.
In 2023 her first book, But Have You Read the Book: 52 Literary Gems That Inspired Our Favorite Movies was published by Turner Classic Movies and Running Press. Her next book, a film analysis and memoir hybrid focusing on disability in the movies, will be published by Applause Books in 2025. And in 2026 Running Press will release her next book, Welcome, Boils and Ghouls!: The Complete Oral History of Tales From the Crypt.
She is the host and producer of the film podcast, Ticklish Business, focused on classic movies. Established in 2016 the podcast has included guests like Holly Madison, Paul Feig, Anna Biller, and TCM hosts Eddie Muller and Alicia Malone. In 2023, the show was included as a bonus feature on the Tod Browning box set released via Criterion Collection.
Kristen is a California native with a Masters degree in English from California State University, Sacramento. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
